I write to thank all who worked so hard to help make the ‘Concert of Hope’ on Sunday 26th November such a successful event. The feedback from the Watoto children and their leaders has been tremendous. They are extremely appreciative for the hospitality we were able to extend to them, and also for the amount of money we raised.
You will be pleased to know that we collected at least a staggering £2.490.00 In addition, we know that Watoto were able to sell a lot of CDs and other items from their stand, and that some people have offered to give on a regular basis by way of standing order. All in all, we not only had a wonderful evening together, but we have significantly supported the work of Watoto Child Care Ministries.
I am sure those who attended now appreciate why I was so keen to have Watoto come and share with us. They melted my heart and I felt that the project was very worthy of our support and encouragement. I still can’t get my head around the two million children, in Uganda alone, that have been orphaned by civil war and the deadly AIDS epidemic. Moreover, that AIDS is responsible for about 12 million of the 48 million children who have lost one or both parents in sub-Saharan Africa. I well up with tears whenever I think of the scale of the AIDS epidemic and how many children die because they haven’t had the care that the Watoto children have received. However, seeing the smiles on the faces of the 18 children that shared with us gives me hope, and I am pleased that we have in some way been able to give to help even more children.
Thank you once again to everyone who gave their time and effort - it was a good team effort – well done!
